D. Description

Establishment of trade unions means the right to organize, collective bargaining, and collective action, which is the exercise of labor rights guaranteed by the Constitution. Compared with companies or employers, workers are absolutely lacking in power. For this reason, it is necessary to prevent the violation of labor rights and ensure a healthy working environment through the unity of workers. The number of registered trade unions has steadily increased year by year as the industry has been subdivided and the workers have been trying to protect their rights. This number was confirmed as 6,239 in 2017 and gradually increased from 10% after 2011. However, there is a negative perception of traffic congestion and social disruption caused by the strikes of labor unions, and the activities of the unions are rarely supported by the people. Furthermore, the Republic of Korea has not ratified the ILO core convention on Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organise (No. 87) and ILO Convention No. 98 on Right to Organise and Collective Bargaining. This is criticized by the international community.
